Alice Isnt Dead

Brief: To create an animated title sequence for the book “Alice Isn’t Dead” by Joseph Fink. The sequence incorporates themes present in the existing cover design (seen below).

Alice Isn’t Dead is a fast-paced thriller novel about a truck driver searching across America for the wife she had long assumed to be dead.

“Alice is missing, and her wife, Keisha, isn’t coping. Everyone thinks Alice is dead. It’s time to move on. But then Keisha begins to see her wife, again and again, in the background of news reports from all over America. Alice isn’t dead. And she is showing up at the scene of every tragedy in the country. Keisha hits the road as a trucker - demented with the hope that travelling the length of the USA will lead her to the person she loves. But what she finds is buried crimes and monsters (both human and unimaginable), government conspiracies, haunted service stations and a darkness far older that the highway system it lies beneath. Cast in the fluorescent lights of midnight diner signs, this story is as big as the open road and as intimate as the darkness of a trucker’s cab.”

For this project, I selected a warm colour palette as it stands out as the most distinctive elements of the original book cover design. The narrative revolves around a thrilling adventure set against the backdrop of the American desert roads, and the grunge style of the illustrations effectively conveys this setting.

Another crucial aspect of this project was the relationship between objects and the music. The story is fast-paced and characterised by constant changes, so I reflected this by maintaining the base colour yellow and using quick camera movements between scenes.
